Chiropractic care is much more than a relief from back or neck pain. Chiropractic care is a conservative method of healthcare that does not utilize drugs or surgery. At Lansdowne Health Centre we utilize the most advanced chiropractic techniques in treating our patients. The most common technique performed by Doctors of Chiropractic is called “Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy” but is more commonly known as a “Chiropractic Adjustment” or “Spinal Manipulation”. Along with the chiropractic adjustment or mobilization, we utilize some form of soft tissue therapy as part of treatment.
Chiropractic manipulative therapy involves a controlled, directional force to increase mobility and remove restrictions in the joints of the body called subluxations. The joints of the body can become restricted as a result of different stresses in life such as a single traumatic injury (ie. Whiplash or a fall) or repetitive motion (ie. Poor posture or poor lifting technique) over an extended period of time. Once these restrictions or subluxations are removed from the joint, a restoration of normal mobility, joint position, and a decrease in the associated pain or discomfort will be felt.
Chiropractic care, like other health-care providers, involves a standard routine to gain information about a patient in order to come up with an appropriate treatment plan. Chiropractors consult, review the case history, conduct a physical examination (which may include a request for additional imaging), and then come up with a diagnosis for your condition. Included in the diagnosis is the probable reason for the pain or discomfort. Once a diagnosis has been made, the chiropractor will provide a custom treatment plan to help fix and prevent the root cause of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous system or refer out to the appropriate practitioner for care.
